take a look at cic website, all the requirements are stated there. it is mandatory for every one to take the test even if your are a British citizen. i also did my master in the uk and i am from an English speaking country. i had to take the test also. if you fail to take the test on an accredited centre, your application will be refused. hope this helps.

Hi Sabbir!

Yes you do need to appear in English proficiency test even if you are a British citizen.. Following tests can be taken. Check Page 8 of

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/EG7.pdf

English
 IELTS: International English Language Testing System (General Training test only)
 CELPIP: Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (General test only)

Thanks

CIC's VO officers strictly follow English proficiency rule, one of my friend obtained a PhD in English literature from Uni of Toronto. After completing his PhD he applied for Canadian PR and was asked by VO to submit IELTS results. My friend was shocked, he wrote to CHC Buffalo that "if Canadian government doesn't recognize his PhD from Uni of Toronto then who else will?" His IELTS was wived and VO office awarded him points for full language proficiency.

Surely Sabbir,
You wouldn't want to take the risk when all you have to do is register and sit for the IELTS General Training Test. It would give you a peace of mind.
