Sorry for my big silence but I'm in the hospital since Monday. My sister is now mother but since her husband is away, in business trip I have to stay by her side. She had a C-section so I just check my email sporadically. Congratulations to new ppr holders and yes the numbers if starting with B or E are indeed the file number.

Hi all, 

I have a question concerning the landing process.
Do I have to go to the border , or  I can do it somewhere else  (like in airport  or  Service Canadan  ... any other place  near Montreal ...) ?

How about the self-sufficency fees  (the c$2700 or something like that).  Do I have to take proof that I have it in my account , when I go for the landing

You can go to any CIC local office but you may wanna call CIC Hotline to have an appointment. You can also go to the border, if in hurry. Finally, if you're flighing out out of Canada shortly you can do landing procedure on return... Just check ur visa expiry date and make sure you land prior.

How about the self-sufficency fees  (the c$2700 or something like that).  Do I have to take proof that I have it in my account Normally, those who work don't need proof, only a letter from the employer showing income/wage. But, you may wanna get ur bank account statement. Having more proof won't hurt! In most cases, they won't bother checking at landing but we never know. , when I go for the landing

nkusi, you can also land in Montreal but you may wait for more than one month to get an appointment.  Call the CIC toll-free line to see when appointments are available.
The easiest way is to drive south to the border, then you land.

Get a bank statement showing your accounts and take you study permit or work permit(some officer may ask for it.).

I need your help!

My file was recently transferred to the Seattle from the Buffalo a month ago. The email instructed us "Do not request the status of your file within ninety (90) days of the date of this letter". I completed my Medicals back in March 2011 and the results reached Ottawa few days later. I am the USA and my OPT expires in few days. I need to contact my University and update them with the status of my Canada Permanent Residence application. Is it advisable to contact the visa office anyway and explain my situation to them, and how should I apprach it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

since there's nothing u'd lose why not send them an email or two. Only be prepared not to receive a reply... It took me many attempts to have them answer.

They basically said If you have no info to share, Wait and email us back after 90 days if nothing came to u by then. I tried 6 emails to get 1 answer, my next step was sending them a fax.. But, now I'll wait patiently. I told them i'm on implied status too. I'm gonna prepare them a nice thank you email and send it later as I'm home for the w-e.
