Hi, I have a question to people who landed in QC.
Did you go to the CA-US border? Can driver also go to the immigration office?
My husband landed yesterday. I really want him to company me to finish my landing.
I plan to take Highway 15. Is there a better choice?
Thanks!
Yeah , I went to Stansted border (I have taken highway 143).
Actually you go to the US custom (border) office and tell them that you "DO NOT WANT TO ENTER THE US" , that you are just completing your landing process. Then , the US border officer will give you a document stating that you have revoked your request to enter US. Then he send you back to the Canadian border , where the whole process of immigration visa confirmation (a.k.a. landing process) takes place. It is pretty straightforward , as long as you stay within the law.
Can the driver go to the US border ?? Mine did, by accident, and it caused us a 30-minute-nightmare-detention by the US custom officers. Beware of the following:
1. Once you are at the US border office, YOU ARE ACTUALLY INSIDE THE US TERRITORY, you have already crossed the border. You will have to go through their checking and follow the US law (no more Canada... hihihi !!!).
2. Anyone who crosses the border MUST BE CARRYING THEIR PASSPORT. It is the travel document that is recognized (not the ID card , nor the PR cards....).
My advice: go to the Canadian border , before crossing, and ask the canadian border officer what it takes for the driver to cross and come back with U. Get everything clear before crossing the frontier .
About the road you will take , I am not sure .... someone else will answer.
PS: you can also try to call the CIC and ask them about the landing process , and your driver crossing with you. Here is their number: 1 888 242-2100 (the waiting time may be long but an agent will eventually answer , give it 5-10 minutes).
Have a nice weekend & happy thanksgiving , ya all .
