Hi Guys,

I sent my fingerprints, exact amount of fees, and the application to the FBI for my background clearance, at the end of November, and I still have not gotten anything back from them! It's been 9 weeks!!! Is that normal? If I call them, would they have any information on this??

For those who have applied and are still waiting, please share when you applied and for those who have gotten theirs already, please let us know how long it took for you to get your clearance back from the FBI. Thanks!!

It can take anywhere from 6-12 weeks.  I believe the FBI website says 12 weeks.  When I applied, it said 16 weeks, and took 7.  I have not seen anyone get it sooner than 6 weeks.

I sent mine in on Sept 8 2011, received the cert on Nov 17 2011.

My credit card was billed for the service on October 1 2011, if that matters/helps.

I believe mine was sent around the start of July and I got everything back the second week of September. The check was done Aug 25th but they didn't actually mail the letter until a week went by. I had it come to Canada so that took another week.

Thanks for that link. I was looking for a thread with the FBI information, but couldn't find one, so I made one of my own.

When I applied, it said 8 weeks! My thought is that I would get it next week.

Thanks everyone for your replies! It did help

There should be a phone number on the FBI website, where you can call and ask.

It took 10 weeks to get my FBI clearance report,so hopefully the timeline seems to be 6-12 weeks time.

Hey guys,

I got my FBI clearance today!! Smiley so it took exactly 9 weeks. I mailed it out the third week of Nov, and got it today!

Are we allowed to open it? Or do we send it sealed how it is?

My husband received mine and opened it, we had no problems because he did so.  Don't mark anything on it, though.

Open it and photocopy it, you never know if you might need it. They asked me for that when I went to the immigration office (at the Peace Bridge) to get a visitor visa. It was just another supporting document that showed them I filed my PR app.

I photocopied mine just to have a record of it, and marked all over the copy is "UNAUTHORIZED COPY" so that probably won't be useful for much.
