Faster recognition of foreign credentials in New Brunswick

Canada, 2nd February: The federal government along with governments of various Canadian provinces is funding a project to enable faster approval of foreign credentials of internationally educated professionals in New Brunswick.

The project named ‘Building Foreign Qualification Recognition Capacity' will receive $1.2 million from the federal government in New Brunswick.

Faster approval of foreign credentials will help IEPs (internationally educated professionals) in Brunswick to get jobs in accordance with the education qualifications and work experiences possessed by them.

Giving details about the project, Martine Coulombe, New Brunswick's Minister of Post-Secondary Education, stated that the project is going to be of great advantage for the immigrants as well as the province.

This program will also facilitate easy and successful integration of newcomers into Brunswick more quickly and will have significant positive results on the workforce, added Coulombe since helping new immigrants to find their job is the key to success.

The population growth secretariat and stakeholders will collaborate to enable new immigrants in Brunswick in early evaluation of their credentials, she stated. The project will amount to a transparent, fair and efficient process for fast recognition of credentials of immigrants, thereby, bridging the time-gap in finding jobs in requisite field.

An employment team co-ordinator at the multicultural association in Fredericton, Bonnie Doughty stated that such a project will equip new immigrants to extend their specific expertise in Brunswick. She also felt pleased to know that someone is taking responsibility to facilitate newcomers get jobs in Canada.

Long-term economic prosperity of Canada is based on its ability to attract and retain the best global talent for addressing the current as well as the future needs of the labor market, said Keith Ashfield, the National Revenue Minister who also happens to be the minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and minister for the Atlantic Gateway.

Ashfield added that such project will help Canada absorb international professionals into requisite jobs earlier and it will be in the best interests of both, the nation and the new immigrants in Canada. The project also aims to help immigrants get all the information related to latest trends in labor market of New Brunswick not only after arriving here but also before they have arrived here.
