It's certainly not impossible to get an extension beyond one year, so long as you've followed the rules up until now and it looks like you are applying for PR. After an initial Visitor Record of 3 months, and a 6 month extension, my partner got a 1-year extension beyond that, which is now in progress. We've been to the U.S. two different weekends and had no trouble returning to Canada either time, but of course that is never guaranteed until you get PR.

What is an extension using the implied status to good effect? I tried googling it, but nothing came up. Or is that just what to write as the reason? I didn't think there was a way I could get another extension since I would have been here a year.

Send the request by postal mail, the processing time is much longer than online applications.
In both cases, you are under "implied status" until you receive a decision.

Postal application - 167 days

Online application - 73 days

There have been many people who have extended their total stay for over a year.

thanks for that info. Im just wondering about the outland sponsorship now and how it effects my situation since I would have to get another extension and keep a valid visa correct? Then it becomes sort of suspicious since I would have to tell them I've already been here over a year but got another extension, it may just look to them like I'm trying to spend as much time possible here until my outland app. is approved. I understand that most people use the original 6 months for visiting while outland sponsorship is being processed-but im well over that period. Also, wouldnt I have implied status from the time I send in my outland app. until they approve it and/or send something back to me? Thanks.
