Spousal Sponsorship application timeline in Canada

Hello
I have applied to sponsor my wife within canada.
A year ago we both received letters telling us we have been approved in principle.
It has been 16th months since they have received my application.
I check the status of my application online daily and it still says in process.

I was wondering why it has taking so long, since we both live in canada, we have been married for six years, and we have 3 kids together. We are both employed. We file taxes as a family.
It is straight forward if you ask me. What is the hold up it is now going on over than 16 months.
The last phone conatc my wife made with them was about a months ago and they told her that her application pending approval on Canadian Security Agency. Can anyone explain that please?

It sounds like because your spouse ( who is the principle applicant) is living in Canada, immigration must conduct a criminal record check in Canada before she can be approved.  Sounds like you are very close to completion.
