Hi everyone! I am new here and I have several questions for people who may know about sponsoring a family. I have an aunt who is a Canadian citizen already and she has sponsored me as her niece. She already submitted the application just last month, but as I have read through the CIC site, something bothered me. It states:

Who can be sponsored

You can sponsor:

1. parents
2. grandparents
3. brothers or sisters, nephews or nieces, granddaughters or grandsons who are orphaned, under 18 years of age and not married or in a common-   law relationship
4. another relative of any age or relationship but only under specific conditions (see Note below)
accompanying relatives of the above (for example, spouse, partner and dependent children).

Note: you can sponsor one relative regardless of age or relationship only if you do not have a living spouse or common-law partner, conjugal partner, a son or daughter, parent, grandparent, sibling, uncle, aunt, nephew or niece who could be sponsored as a member of the family class, and you do not have any relative who is a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident or registered as an Indian under the Indian Act.

Since I am no longer under 18, I cannot be sponsored as a niece then. So I may fall in as another relative of any age or relationship. But as emphasized, there should not have any other relative who is a Canadian citizen too...I have first cousins who grew up there.

Anyone by this case? Would I really qualify as a candidate? and if not, can I withdraw my application so I can apply to other categories? Can we submit two applications at a time since I'm planning to apply as a skilled worker.

THANKS!

Are your cousins your aunt's children, or her nieces and nephews? In any case, if they are Canadian citizens, she can't sponsor you, unless she lives in Saskatchewan or Manitobe. In those provinces, an aunt can sponsor a niece under certain conditions, but the application is not filed under family class in Mississauga. The forms are different.

Hi! They are also her nieces and nephews in Canada(my first cousins). She lives in Alberta. So I won't qualify then? Can we withdraw the applicaation even if there has not been any response yet? Can I submit another application now under another category?

THANKS SO MUCH! =)

Basically for it to work, your aunt has to be alone and lonely in Canada to be allowed to sponsor you.  She can not have living parents, husband or children who either could be sponsored or are already citizens or PR's.

If you have realized you are not eligible, you might as well withdraw and see if you can get your fees back.

Are you sure your aunt sponsored you under the Family Class?  Alberta did have a family stream under their PNP program and she may have applied through that before it closed.  Check to be sure.
