Have you landed yet?

If you have landed then you need only stay in Canada for 2 out of every 5 years so it should be no problem.

If you have not landed yet then you must do so within 12 months of your medicals (is this what you mean by expires Dec 2011?). I do not think it is possible to extend your visa - you really do need to land within 12 months else you risk losing your residency status. You can of course try and request an extension but I do not think visa office would allow this for anything other than very exceptional circumstances, and a pregnancy is not really exceptional.

So IMO you either land before the child is born, and then either have the child born in Canada (in which case it will be a Canadian citizen) or have the child born back at home (in which case you will need to sponsor it).

If you have the child before you land you will need to add the child onto your application, which will mean separate fees and medicals.

Best of luck,
Wayne.

If i were in your position, i will try and land , so that my wife can have the baby in Canada. It will help you a lot. except , it is impossible to move now. After the baby is born, you need to add the child to the application and it takes time to do so. Before they finalize the child's paper work you visas might expire. So please you have to think deeply, before taking any decision.

The faster the better.

Child born in Canada will help lot ...

Indeed, if the child is born in Canada to permanent residents then he/she will be a Canadian citizen. You should then also be able to get the child passports for your own country and the child can have dual citizenship.

If the child is born outside Canada have you have landed - then you are permanent residents and he/she is not and will require sponsoring.

If the child is born outside Canada before you land - then you must apply to the visa office to add the child onto your application and will need medicals etc for the child before you land.

Whichever way you slice it - landing then having the child in Canada is the best solution!

Best of luck with whatever you decide though Smiley

While you are doing all this "Family Planning", don't forget if you do manage to get to Canada you will want to have 3 months minimum there to get medical coverage.  I expect it would be very expensive to get temporary insurance coverage for prenatal, delivery and post partum care.
