European citizen visiting canada through United States

I am a US citizen, and my boyfriend who is a French citizen (only) is visiting me from Paris. We would like to travel to Canada for tourism for a few days. I would like to know if he would need any documents to travel from the United States to Canada, and back.

For him passport, for both proof of funds to maintain yourselfs.

If you don't have any money, then how will you live for a couple of days?  You have to show/have enough to support your visit.
Usually a credit card is sufficient with some cash.
