Hi Everyone,

As per the new guidelines w.e.f Jan 2012, all applicants applying for PR under CEC need to provide an employment reference letter including a few new requirements/changes as mentioned in the document checklist.

However, the option of NOT providing a reference letter has been removed, wherein the applicant could provide an explanation or reasons for not receiving a letter from his/her employer.

Please advise.

Thanks in advance !

Hi Jes/Sai,

Could you please advise what should an applicant be doing in such a case where he cannot provide an employment reference letter ?

Should the applicant still go ahead by providing a written explanation/reasons for not having a reference letter ?

Your thoughts are highly appreciated.

Thanks !

Bottom left-hand corner of all of CIC's forms and guides show their issue/effective date - in this case, 01-2012

Hi Everyone,

As per the new guidelines w.e.f Jan 2012, all applicants applying for PR under CEC need to provide an employment reference letter including a few new requirements/changes as mentioned in the document checklist.

Also note - the letter(s) still must be "recently issued" but now only a photocopy is required.  I find this strange, but it does allow you to keep the original in case (for some reason) it needs to be replaced, or you want to submit a new application...

However, the option of NOT providing a reference letter has been removed, wherein the applicant could provide an explanation or reasons for not receiving a letter from his/her employer.

First - the "option" of providing an explanation in lieu of the letter - it should never be thought of as an "option", just a last-ditch substitute that is NEVER as good as the actual letter (or what ever document you cannot supply), and will have a high chance of rejection.

But, for those who truly CANNOT get the letter - the instructions are still there, just not specific to the Letter of Employment.  If you look at the general instructions near the top of the Checklist, there is a

Note: If you are unable to provide any of the requested documentation....
