Effects of elections results on immigration

The coming up elections will definitely bring the changes in immigration policies. It is to see how each party takes it up.

The elections due on 2nd May 2011 are expected to bring out big change for Canada in the coming times. Its result is also expected to influence the future policies of the coming government regarding immigration.

Every contesting party has its own different agendas' and views for the new immigration policies that will come into being after the elections. Basically Canada has five main parties into the election show. Each one if elected will be working from different point of view to improve the immigration sector.

Some of their views which were brought forward to the public give an idea what changes they might bring in for immigrants settled or coming to Canada.

As according to the promises made by the Conservative, they promised if they are re-elected they are planning a strict control over the policies so as to keep a check on human smuggling, which is one of the biggest problem Canadian immigration is facing. They will also implement policies to rationalize the process of deporting overseas law breakers. They are going to implement policies two year condition for permanent residence in the country for the immigrants who sponsored by their partners. They are also planning to form policies for quicker and easy by the foreign credentials recognition in Canada.

If the Green party wins they are willing to fund more for the language training programs in English and French to the immigrants and also to improve their integration with country's society. They also want to work for a program for the people who are living in Canada without any official acknowledgment and will help them get landed immigration status. They are planning to keep a check and govern the functions of immigration consultants. They also plan to bring changes in Anti-Terrorism Act and Public Safety Act for better action of it.

NDP coming into power promises to form and implement policies that cut shorten the current immigration wait times and family reunification, decreases the backlog of visa applications and improve the procedures for the visitor visa applicants. They will also back up their policies by toughing laws for fraud consultants.

Liberals being elected have also promised to improve the wait time for visas by increasing efficiency. They are creating hope to increase the number of visas which are categorized under Family Class Category.

The Parti Quebecois has not promised much for this sector and have planned to propose change in within their province.

Well conservatives already won. Following are the standing from each parties on immigration

Conservatives have promised to:

Get tougher on human smuggling; I always support tougher lines on human smuggling
Streamline the process for deporting foreign criminals; Well this shouldn't be issue for new immigrants
Impose a two year conditional Canadian permanent resident status for applicants who are sponsored by a spouse or common-law partner and who have been in that relationship for less than two years; and it shouldn't be an issue for genuine applicants. Lots of foreigners who are not eligible to apply for immigration under any category, they go for paper / paid marriage, it is impossible  to completely stop these marriages  but will decrease the number by pushing up price.
Have foreign credentials recognized in Canada faster and more easily. Will be good

Good about conservative party is family values, never decreased funding for students and no proposal to do so in near future , cut budget deficits, want steady growth in economy rather than boom, no on gay marriages and abortions, crack down on people in society who use the social benefits in improper way.

Bad lower taxes on corporates with a thought to increase foreign investments but never worked for canada, just 1% increase in current corporate tax rate from 15% to 16% will result in an addition of $973 m in revenue.  Conservative likes to generate revenue from other sources than corporates or business.

If elected, the Liberals have promised to:

Reduce wait times for immigration applications and increase efficiency of the current Canadian immigration system; Well in their last tenure the immigration application processing time went up to 6 years,
Increase the number of visas that are issued in the Family Class Category; Well normally every political party will keep quotas on immigration, to increase # of family class immigrants they might reduce quotas on other classes
Increase federal funding for language training programs in Canada for those wanting to improve their English or French proficiency; Skilled worker shouldn't need that but a country with just infrastructure deficits of $300+ (varies from $115 to $637) billion (budget deficit $28.9 b, Canada need $137 b for maintenance of old infrastructure, there deficits in social payments, pensions, and other social services and these deficits are not accounted in budgets) shouldn't spend a lot to improve English of its  work force, because to fund these projects need tax rate increase and with current tax structure it looks impossible
and Improve the system of recognizing foreign credentials in Canada.

Higher taxes on corporates without lowering taxes on employees, very loose on social payments, loose on refuges, stand similar to other parties on skilled, partner, and other categories,

waste money on stupid issues, don't promote social values

Bad lower taxes on corporates with a thought to increase foreign investments but never worked for canada, just 1% increase in current corporate tax rate from 15% to 16% will result in an addition of $973 m in revenue.  Conservative likes to generate revenue from other sources than corporates or business.

NDP: If elected, the New Democratic Party has promised to:

Improve immigration wait times and fast-track family reunification;Same as conservatives on this line
Reduce the backlog of applications at the visa offices; They support conservatives on country wide opinion on backlog of application and if canadian nationals agree they might ask large number of applicants to apply again under new system
Develop better procedures and appeals for those applying for visitor visas;good or bad don't know
Accelerate the recognition of foreign credentials in Canada; same as other major parties
Reinstate federal funding for immigrant settlement agencies, especially those cut in Ontario;big question mark where the funding will come from
Implement the “Once in a Lifetime Act” which would allow Canadians a one-time opportunity to sponsor a relative who is not a member of the family class to come to Canada; Good idea and
Ensure tough laws against crooked consultants are enforced.best idea

bad and good is one liner were very extreme of Liberals (opposite to conservatives), but I really liked their financing for budget, not bad for legal immigration as their stand is similar to other parties

All parties in Canada on legal immigration stand on same point, they have different views about refuges and illegal immigrants. Conservatives are harsh on this issue. Immigration policy is approved by parliament last year. Canada is competing with Australia on immigration want to decrease application time frame but there is uncertainty in economic conditions, high dollar, inflated housing markets, less spending from government. Government wouldn't like to stimulate economy by injecting money as already deficits are quite high.

Liberals just say, their track record is not too good on immigration they use it as card in high immigrant ridings.
