Hi everyone,

My story is:

1. Completed Primary 5 in another country
2. Many years later went back to school and completed Secondary 8 and 10 (Form 4 and 5 as we call it here)
3. Graduated with Advanced Diploma in Accounting
4. Graduated with BSc Accounting

I would like to know whether i will be awarded any points for my education? I have gone through alot of information and am very confused.

Another question, i have a saving in my account(Provident Fund). If i leave the country then i can withdraw this money. Can this be treated as available funds under the application?

Looking forward to your replies.

Thanks alot.

Hi,

If I'm not mistaken your  highest level of education is 1 yr University and you fall under

"Obtained a one-year university degree at the bachelor's level and completed at least 13 years of full-time or full-time equivalent studies" catagory. Please make sure if I'm right by taking the test in the below link.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/assess/index.asp

As u said u did lot of research u must have taken the test to find how much ur education scores. It is not mandatory to have full time education or in the same country. U should be able to prove wat you write in your application (for e.g If you say 14 yrs education u must give all the proof of where, when, how etc.)

Regarding the PF part of ur question. CIC does not accept PF as proof of funds. For proof of funds refer to the following guidelines from CIC

Funds Required to Settle in Canada
The Government of Canada provides no financial support to new skilled worker immigrants. You must
prove that you have enough money unencumbered by debts or obligations to support yourself and your
family members after you arrive in Canada.

The minimum required funds may change at any time. Check our Web site to make sure you have the most
recent information.
We strongly recommend that you research the cost of living in the region of Canada where you intend to
live. Bring with you as much money as possible to make your establishment in Canada easier.
Disclosure of funds
You will have to tell a Canadian official if you carry more than $10,000 Canadian in cash funds upon your
entry to Canada. This could be in the form of:
• money (coins or bank notes)
• securities in bearer form (stocks, bonds, debentures, treasury bills etc.)
• negotiable instruments in bearer form (bankers' drafts, cheques, travellers' cheques,
money orders etc.)
Failure to disclose can result in fines and imprisonment.

Also u may refer this link

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/funds.asp

Hope this helps

Regards,

Thanks alot for the information, really appreciated.

If i use only the 1 year degree points then i have total point of only 62. Can i use the Advanced diploma as a "3 year" diploma? Also the provident fund is a liquid cash, if i leave it will just take a month to take them out so.....? By the way, if i have already submitted the application can i make changes to it now?

Do i have to give evidence/proof for my primary/secondary education or just for the highest level only?

As you can see i have skipped some classes like primary 6, secondary 6 and etc, would this be a problem?

Sorry for so many questions but i have to clarify whether to withdraw my application or not.

Thanks

Hi Regina,

I have a proof for Primary 1-5(i think, have to check that), have the proof for my Secondary, Advanced diploma and the degree.

So that would make it 5+2+2.5+1=10.5?

I have not included my wife in the application, she has a nursing degree. Should i include her to gain some points?

Regards

Current 2007 Format Hong kong
Length Education Type Additional Names Type Focus School Year
3 years kindergarten  non-compulsory General Sept - June
6 years Primary Education Primary Six compulsory General Sept - July
3 years Secondary Education Form 1, Form 2, Form 3 compulsory General Sept - July
2 years Senior Secondary
(leads to HKCEE) Form 4, Form 5 non-compulsory Specialize Sept - July (Form 4),Sept - April (Form 5)
2 years Matriculation Course
(leads to HKALE) Form 6 (Lower Six)
Form 7 (Upper Six) non-compulsory, performance based Specialize Sept - July (Form 6) , Sept - February/March (Form 7)
Depends on major Tertiary Education
(leads to bachelors, masters and other academic degrees)  non-compulsory Specialize Varies

you first calculate your total years of study dont think about that you change country or school all you mention your total years of study and if your bachelor like Bsc is finished and you earn degree then you will get College or Bachelor: 22 points

now for more points you should add your wife you will get minimum 3 to 5 points depend on her completing years of Education if you still have question you can ask , goodluck

Hi Maroraza,

Thanks alot for making my life easier. Sorry for my ignorance but i still don't get it. So i get 22 points in my case because i have already earned a bachelor degree?

As you can see from my previous posts i have calculated my total number of years of education and it turned out to be only 10.5 years?

Another way would be, Primary 6(6 years)+Secondary(5 years)+Advanced Diploma(2.5 years, part-time)+Degree(1 year, part-time) = 14.5 years?? Do i have to prove all these years of study?

Thanks

... blind leading the blind.

Andy, I suggest you do the online assessment with Campbell Cohen.  They'll give you specific feedback as to whether you'll get 20 points for your Bachelor's degree or not.  My feeling is that you probably would, but you should check with them for sure.  You won't get more than 20 points for education in any case.

If your Provident Fund is a mutual fund with no restrictions, then you can use it as proof of available funds.  But if your money is in a retirement account that is then invested in the Provident Fund, that doesn't qualify.  You would have to withdraw it and put it in savings to make it available.

Two or more university degrees at the Bachelor's level AND at least 15 years of full-time study - 22 points
A two-year university degree at the Bachelor's level AND at least 14 years of full-time study - 20 points
hope you are not blind
