Hello all!

Quick questions to all those who are sponsoring their spouse who lives outside Canada.

I'm sponsoring my wife (outland application).  I received my eligibility to sponsor letter earlier this month and our application has now been transferred to the overseas visa office.

1) Can I see how the application is progressing using my (the sponsor) Client ID on ECAS?  Currently, it just says "Application Received".
2) Are status messages such as "In Process", "Medicals Received" only seen using the File # of the sponsored person?
3) Is my Client ID only to check status message for Part 1 of the application (i.e. eligibility to sponsor spouse) and then to see whether it has been approved or not (nothing in between)?

Many thanks!

1) Yes, and the status updates will never be anything fancier than that
2) No, you access the exact same information using your Client ID as your file number and else
3) yup, the principal applicant client ID won't say anything about the sponsoring part

Thanks Jendrian.

Your answers to 1, 2 and 3 are a bit contradictory...
- If we access the exact same info using Client ID (of person sponsoring) as File# (of person being sponsored), then I (person who is sponsoring) should be able to see how my wife's application is progressing, no?

If I, the person who is sponsoring my wife, cannot see the status of my wife's application, then will I only see "Application Received" until a decision is made?  In other words, I don't see any status updates until they make a decision on whether to grant my wife visa or not?

no you, the sponsor, get to see everything with your client ID

she, the sponsored, can only see her status as an immigrant application (i.e., she can't see the status of the sponsorship, the one that relates to you).

For example, here's how it went for me and my wife:

Her client ID
Sponsorship, approved
applicant, decision made

My client ID
applicant, decision made

OK, so bottom line: I can get the status of her permanent residence application using MY Client ID.  Her File# has no additional information (so it's pretty much useless).

Right?

yup, except the file number will be required for other things. You have to attach it, for example and it's the only number they'll take, when you send additional information

If my husband was approved for sponsorship wouldn't the information show up online under the client id number from the approval letter?

Nothing is working and I really want to see some updates.... Smiley

You can see the status of your sponsored spouse's application once the application is transfered and begins processing in the VO, using the sponsor's client ID.

Although ECas is unrealiable if they are updating periodically you will see this,

It should move from App Received to In Process to Decision Made. Under those headings you will see sated the application was received by the VO, when they begin processing, when medicals are received, if there has been an interview schedule ect.

Some people have been able to see this with the sponsored spouse's UCI number, me personally I have only been able to use the sponsor's info.
