A week? I don't think you understand how LARGE this system actually is. They would have to shut down all of the visa offices, CIC offices in Canada and CBSA functions at the POEs just off the top of my head. How loud would people scream if they basically shut down immigration for a week? No international flights allowed to land in Canada? Canada/US border closed for a week? Oy vay! ahahah maybe I didn't think e-cas was used for border stuff too...I thought it was only an internal system to use between CIC and their VO. Anyways, a lot of VO offices seem to run even though they never use e-cas since we never seen upgrades.. my wife's file still says " not available " when I log in with my client ID...even though she received her AOR letter about a month ago..

I would suggest that some of the money that goes into the upgrade/business process re-engineering from eCAS to GCMS includes a strong memo to visa office staff to use the damned thing and use it properly. It grieves me to no end to see where certain VOs are diligent in the use of eCAS so that persons whose applications are being processed at these offices at least receive updates on the processing of their applications (I will mention Buffalo, London, New Delhi), whereas a VO like Kingston, Jamaica gets away with the kind of shoddy use of eCAS mentioned in their 2010 audit, and seen from the experiences of some on that office's thread, for example where one sponsor's wife's information was updated to "Decision Made and Landed" TWO WEEKS after she actually arrived in Canada. How fortunate for him he wasn't depending on eCAS to tell him when he could expect to hear from them regarding his wife's application! She might have had to arrive at the airport without a pickup.
As much money as the Canadian government is spending on this thing, the least they can do is ensure that ALL visa offices and their staff and other agencies using the system do so diligently and purposefully. Since they decided to allow sponsors and applicants access to the system, probably so they could cut down on the inquiries received at the visa offices, it seems only efficient to ensure that the users of that system who are intended to update it actually do so, in order that people who are expected to use it to gain information/updates can actually get them. ALL of them, not just some. Last time I checked, all applicants regardless of location had to pay the same fees, they should be assured of the same or at least a comparable level of service regardless of location in the world.

Good thought charlie, I'm agree.....My case the application was transfered to Bogota in November 1 my e-cas still showing application received ...even when we sent the passport more than a month a go....so the fact tha e-cas is suppose to give you an idea about what is going on with your case should be accurate......but obviously that's not the case.....

All I do on here is help people. Take a look at my posts before implying otherwise. And part of helping people is to educate them. The poster didn't know how extensively the CAIPS/FOSS/ECAS system is used in immigration for Canada. Now he does. ahahah maybe I didn't think e-cas was used for border stuff too...I thought it was only an internal system to use between CIC and their VO. Both you and CharlieD are right to complain about the inconsistencies of visa posts in the use of CAIPS and updating ECAS. GCMS is "supposed" to fix this and require that ALL VOs are consistent. But one can only cross their fingers and hope. Try logging in with the receipt number rather than the client ID. See if that works. Or, use the file number on the AOR and your spouse's information.

Well, I can log in with my wife's AOR immigration number and it says application received on december 3rd ....with her address and that's about it, but when I enter with my sponsor ID client, it still says that the application of my wife is "not available"...let me try with the receipt number.....same thing! If they sent the AOR to my wife, can we conclude that they received the medical exams without problem?

My experience with e-CAS has been disappointing, so I wouldn't get excited about it.
My wife is waiting for her PR visa, and still e-CAS shows an address we moved out of more than a year ago. It is woefully out of date.

Yes you are right ...e-cas is a mess, at this point I think my only way is just to wait...I wouldn't say anything if this was free.....but paying a lot of money and not receiving a good accurate service ...is very disappointed...and the fact that we can't even ask about because they don't say anything.... Waiting and waiting...no choice..

If they sent the AOR to my wife, can we conclude that they received the medical exams without problem? So you have the file number from the AOR and it shows on ECAS. What is your concern then? About the medical, if Bogata doesn't update ECAS with every detail (like many visa offices don't), then it will probably never show on ECAS. There are two ways you can confirm they received the medical. Request the CAIPS notes or wait until they tell you they did NOT receive it. Wish I could be more help.
