In Canada, you must take care of yourself.  There is some social assistance available if you have nothing else but it is such a low amount that you can not live on it.  You can choose if you want to eat or pay the rent.  That is pretty much it.

Because of that, it is in your best interest to get a job.  If you can't get the job you want, take the job you can get.  If you have to move to get a job, do that.

1. You should support yourself and your family as long as you can, its a universal principle, one needs to feed themselves and family regardless of where they live. Canada will not provide any financial support otherwise nobody will ever work.

2. If you cannot support yourself after 6 months then you need to find a job, it may or may not be in your field of study

3. You will have to check jobsites such as workopilis, monster.ca etc

4. I know of a friend of mine who was there, he said there are lots of old people and there is moderate level of racism and discrimination. Its expected considering small town and visible minorities.
