Hello,

I work as Software Test engineer and NOC is 2173. I had copied job duties from HRDC website as it is because it was matching around 70-80% of it. I was talking to few of my friends and some told me that you are not suppose to copy it as is but write it in your own words. Can you guys shed some light on this issue.

your friends are right - you are not supposed to copy the NOC description.   If it is  a word-for-word match, that is supposed to be a red flag for IOs.

Thanks jes_on. Whats the way to correct it or to do in case of rejection?

I wouldn't worry about it unless/until it becomes a problem.  I think it will depend a lot on who your employer is - if it is a large, well-recognized firm and your letter of employment from your supervisor also supports the NOC, you'll likely be OK.  If it is a very small, unknown firm, there might be more questions.

Its a mid size firm around 150 employee. couple of employees just got their PR under CEC while working for this company. I have letter of reference written by HR manager. she has attached her business card and letter of reference was written on company's letterhead with official seal on it. If IO says anything I can have my product team manager, my qa manager and my qa team lead to write a letter. lets say what happens. and Also, I had attached in the application T4 slip and pay stubs. Wish me a luck!

Hey Jes_on

Thanks for your response. I was wondering, soon, I am going to have my performance review and expecting a salary raise. Also, my work permit is expiring in Sept and would like to update CIC on both the matters. I was wondering if I could send CIC updated paraphrased job description of NOC 2173 written by my company's HR Manager. Would this approach back fire on me?

I don't know.  Unless CIC requests more info or an update, I would only send an "update" if you get a promotion - essentially a new job or position within the company.
