Hi,

My passport is valid for another 4.5 months. I don't understand if I should apply for the work permit first or file for a passport extention. When I am issued a work permit, does it have a date on it until which it is valid? Does that date depend on the date until whihc the passport is valid? I am planning to apply for Work permit first, land in Canada, and then get my passport renewed. Is it a good idea?

I do not want to get the work permit, and have to get it extended again after three months.

Any suggestions or opinions will be greatly appreciated. The CIC website says that passport should be valid for at least 3 months before entering Canada.

Would greatly appreciate it if those who have recieved work permits, could throw some light/share their experiences.

Thanks again!

The work permit will depend on the expiry of your passport...

My understanding is that the consulate gives you a letter of introduction which you take to the Port of Entry where you are given a work permit. Since the Work permit is given at the POE, if u get your passport renewed before going to the POE, you will be fine. Can someone confirm this?

yup, the validity of the work permit is based on the expiry of the passport and if you are here, they would usually advice to renew our passport 6 months before it expires.
