I received letter for submitting passport for immigration visa stamp for PR. How long is the visa generally valid, stamped by Canadian consulate (buffalo)? is it 3 months, 6 months or 1 year? or does it depend on the last date when your medicals expire? My medicals expire in Novī07, and if I send passport for stamping now and CIC returns it by mid Oct, will I get only one month visa? Isnīt that too little time to move to Canada??

Thanks in advance for your help & suggestion.

All offices it is one year from the medical.  Buffalo in some instances will extend it 3 months.

Thanks PMM for replying. When I send passport for stamping, should I ask Buffalo office to grant me extended visa (beyond Nov) ? or wait to see the duration they have stamped it , and if they stamp only 1 month, then ask for extension? What is the procedure for requested extension? Thanks.

It should be one year otherwised in your case, which I hope not you will need to do other medical test examination as the one you did will have expired.  Check with them and explain your concerns.

1.Should I ask CIC (Buffalo) now before sending passport for stamping, to give me extended visa or allow me to retake medicals
2. Or Should I wait to see how long is the visa they stamp and then if it is too short for me to land, I can request them to extend or let me retake medicals?
Please help. Your suggestions/advise is appreciated. Thanks everyone.

I would advise you submit your passport as they have requested.  And then you can take it from their.  I am sure the officer will be considerate to give more or enough for you to be able to make preparations for immigration thats for instance if you need to sell, resign from your job.  Otherwise if you would like to send your ppt with a letter to explain your concerns thats also a wise decision.

Good luck with every decision you make and congratuations!
