Congratulations Waqas, I hope everything goes smoothly and you receive your Positive Eligibility Review at the earliest.

Thanks to everyone for your input regarding the account opening from here. The reason I was thinking of opening it was so that I can transfer the funds to the Scotia bank account and then activate it on landing so that I can use the funds as required once I land. I read somewhere that a bank draft can take upto 30-40 days to get cleared so I don't want to take that chance. I will of course be carrying some cash with me but I would prefer to deposit that once I get there also and then just use the credit or debit card for transactions. I would really appreciate your comments about this....

Hi Wendy, my draft was credited within 10 days. And i have too account with Scotia bank, which i had opened after my landing.

Cheers..

Thanks Abdul! I'll have to think about doing this as well now. Grin

I just spoke to HDFC bank and they said they no longer have a tie up with Scotia bank, so I guess this is no longer going to work for us here! Sad Grin

Yes Soby, I'm looking into RBC right now. I've asked a friend in Vancouver about them so if I get positive feedback I'll go ahead and open an account with them. Please remember though that Captain Qorax was not very keen on RBC because of low presence of ATMs and branches. I'll let you know that I find anyway.

hi windy

In Vancouver also i saw scotia bank has many branches plus RBC was not giving credit card for a new comer when i checked with thm on sep

scotia bank has a product called "StartRight Program" which is very good for a new immigrant  plus 1 year free banking. they also provide a credit card with CAD 1000 limit  Cheesy

Thanks Biju! I also received an email from Pankaj Mehra who I tried to contact 2 days ago and he replied a while ago saying that they are working to partner with another bank in Dubai before the end of the year. I'll ask him to keep me updated so that if they open the service again before I go I can open the account. I'll let everyone here know the minute I get any news.

I agree with Biju. There is hardly any use of opening bank account before landing. I had to waste more than half a day for activating my Scotiabank account. Travelling from Brampton to Downtown Toronto by pubilc transport in chilly conditions was not enjoyable. After landing, one can visit nearby Scotaibank branch and open account within 20 min. It is so simple. Why go through unnecessary hassles?

Hi Guys
As per Indira Prabhakaran a forum member who landed in Canada, Scotia Bank statement can be shown as POF at entry point. This may help us in unwanted wastage on money in taking DD or TC.

Buddy,
It is just a Self addressed envelope means they will return your passport and CORP forms in that envelope. So just make one envelope with your address and put together with PP. This envople is not prepaid one, I think we have to pay when we receive from the courier(post paid).
London VO sends PP to Abu Dhabi office every Thursday, so from there they will call you and deliver to you by local courier.

regards,
