Driver licence

Hello,
I will be settling in Alberta and have a question about DL.
I would like to obtain one from Alberta , I currently have a licence from USA ... Can I just surrender this to get my canadian dl?
Will I need a test? Which one? I'm just interestedon getting a licence to drive just our simple regular car.
Any help welcomed.

As long as you have full US license you just exchange it in Alberta, no test.

Thanks PMM, I have a class "e" US driver licence, this means it is for non-commercial vehicles. Is this the "full" one you are talking about? Thanks:)

In Alberta, a regular drivers license is called a Class 5 license.  You can read about it at http://www.servicealberta.ca/Drivers_Licence.cfm#Exchanging_a_Non-Alberta_Operators_Licence but basically you just walk into on of the places marked "registries" and give them your license in exchange for a Canadian one.  You can look for registry offices at http://www.servicealberta.ca/617.cfm
