Hello,

My husband lives in the United States with no status...and we were planning on filling out the application next year for him to immigrate to Canada. He wants to also apply to get his Work Permit through the Dream Act before we apply for him to immigrate up here. I am just wondering if he does get his Work Permit for the united states...will that affect our chances of being approved?

Thanks for your help

No impact - go ahead and apply.

If he has no status in the US, he'll most likely be banned from re-entering the US for 10 years as soon as he leaves. If there's a way for him to legalize his status in the US before he leaves for Canada - by all means do it.

The DREAM Act is not law, so you shouldn't count on current administration policy lasting past January 20 if Romney wins.
