It is a known fact that Canada is one of the sought after destinations when it comes to immigration. People from all around the world select this destination for various reasons. More so, when it comes to the application procedure for immigration, it is very straightforward in comparison to the rest of the nations.

Recently, an audit was conducted on the immigration department of Canada by Sheila Fraser, the Canadian Auditor-General. This audit revealed many instances where in there were systems which were outdated and thus, inefficient. These were specifically concerned with problems pertaining to Citizenship and Immigration Canada at the application procedure stage.

The main categories which need to be amended were found out to be the standards regarding customer service, tracking complaints, feedback and the computer systems. All these areas are in need to be upgraded.

It was also mentioned in the report that there were certain computers in the Canada immigration that are almost three decades old. These systems are still being used. With this, when it came to the processing timelines for the Canadian visas, even the officials at Canada immigration were giving mixed responses. These timelines varied to different of up to three months. It has been reported that the immigration department has given its consent to the findings revealed by the audit. They have brought out the plans for improvements to better their system.

Above all, with Canada being one of the most preferred nations for immigration, it is vital for the immigration department to be highly efficient. Such reports and audits should be encouraged further to ensure that the system is updated all the time. More so, this would prevent from further backlog of the application. This would also reduce the processing timelines for the application too.

Talk about CAIPS system, it still looks as if they are using software that was built on foxpro or some old software. Anyways hoping for good and quick outcome after that.

Nope, not quite it is a mainframe system from the 60s running on COBOL.  Platforms were Burroughs B60s and B69s.  Later UNISYS 17s Presently the legacy systems are migrating to the Gobal Case Management System, which incorporate, Citizenship (already running) CAIPS, FOSS, and a couple of other systems.  Project has been in development since about 2001.  It is supposed to incorporate the Overseas offices from 05/10 to 03/11.  Supposed to be complete by 2013.
