Does sponsor need background checks if they've lived out of Canada?

I saw another post that made this pop into my head. It's not mentioned that I know of on the sponsorship forms but I want to make absolutely sure. My husband (sponsor) lived in the US (out of status) for a little over a year in 2003-2004. It is mentioned on the form, though it only asks where he lived and not his status at the time. Will he need to get his FBI check to send with our application? Will being out of status in another country (he didn't get in any trouble here) hurt our application?

I asked the same question in another thread before as I will be sponsoring my future husband and have been living in Dominican Republic for the past 2 years. The response was, no, the sponsor doesn't need a police check if they've lived out of country for 6+ months. I had wondered about that myself. It's not asked in any of the forms, schedules or guides, so I assumed with a high degree of certainty that it's not needed, 'cause if it would, then it would be listed everywhere in big bold letters!

So I'm going without one, even if obtaining it would not be a big problem.

That's a relief, thanks! I guess they don't care where else the sponsor has been bad, as long as they've been reasonably good in Canada LOL

I lived for 10 years in Asia before I sponsored my husband, and they never asked for police checks from anywhere, nor did anyone ever ask me anything about this.
On the background checks they may take a look at where the sponsor has been, but for the average application I don't think they do anything else.
I've never heard of a sponsor being asked for a police check, though I am sure the VO could ask for one it they wanted to.
I have seen appeal cases where the judge wanted some proof that the sponsor had been in some country, usually because the couple claimed to have spent time together, but offered no hard evidence that the sponsor had actually gone to that country. But passport stamps would have been enough - they didn't expect police certificates.
