Hi all ,

The option in CEC for graduates who fall in based on work experience, as i know that beside we need 2 year experience of working and we also must had successfully complete a 1 year program. What do they mean by 1 year program, whether does it count on full time program which  included all the semester break too ? or they count on certain hour/semester without the semester break???

Hope to hear from you all.
Thank you for your advice.

Friends it 1 year program with 2 years work exp. That one year program have nothin to do with no:of semesters though usually 2 semesters  make 1 year, But the visa officer will have his own database for example - ABC program IN ABC university/college is of  X years. So the best way is to confirm it with your school that what is the duration of the program you did "Oficially"

Here's what the guide says: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5609ETOC.asp

Experience: Education requirements for Graduates

You must have studied in a program of study or training with a full-time duration of at least 16 months (i.e. two academic years of at least 8 months excluding scheduled breaks, such as summer holidays, in the calculation). The definition of full-time studies is left to individual post-secondary institutions. Full-time studies could also include any period of training in the workplace that forms part of the course of study.

The highlighted part can be a problem if the school has a broad range. I can see where visa officer is coming from though, as someone can stretch a 1 year program to 2 yrs.

Sing07, what does your admission letter say? If it says 2 yr program, you can also use it to try the appeal process.

That is the issue in my case because my school does not have any fixed duration, its 3 - 5 terms. Also, I don't have my admission letter. Its been long time.

This is what school has to say: Usually or generally or students may complete it in 3 terms but the maximum is 5 terms.

But I am pretty sure that the officer must have had a substantial proof to refuse my application.

Spartan 18, Its look like 4 semesters :

fall 2008
winter 2009
fall 2010
winter 2011

But again double-check with your school.

For example, Bachelor of engineering degree is a 4 year course , if you do it in 6 year(max allowed time) it doesn't make it a 6 year course. So it really depends on what course you did and whats its duration given on your college website. It does not matter what we consider it to be.

And failing a course does not mean anything until good standing in your Academics is not a requirement of CEC.So don't worry about your GPA or how well you did.

@ Singh07... You can ask your school for a copy of your admission letter and tell them what you need it for. At this point, anything that can help your appeal is worth the try, don't you think?

Yes , already sent a request for that..I don't have much hopes with all this but still there is no harm giving a try.

let seniors on this forum guide u but i believe u need at least 4 semesters to qualify and in other to do that, you must have completed a full-time Canadian post-secondary educational program of at least two years(16 months) or
a one-year Master's program (certificates and diplomas cannot be counted) and an additional year of education, obtained in Canada, before admission into the one-year program (for a total of two years). or
◦a temporary foreign worker with at least two years of full-time (or equivalent) skilled work experience in Canada.

one semester equal to 4 months
