Of course you're right. Canada although promises quality heath care but there's an endless wait for patients. In the US if you have good health insurance you can see a doctor right away, in Canada the system is overwhelmed. But US health care also has its pitfalls. If you don't have a job or good health insurance then you've to cough up thousands of $$$$ to pay the medical bills. So in my opinion both the countries need health care overhaul.

Here in US even if you have a job, you can end up having a very bad insurance... with bad coverage and many other drawbacks..... (limited lab test, etc)
I know a case of a US citizen working in a retail company who ended up going to Philippines to have his cancer treatment because his insurance did not cover it here... if we wanted to pay here he would had to pay more than 100k... in Philippines he paid 10k.
Besides here in US medicines are very expensive.. HMO has better coverage than PPO.. but still you have to pay money for medicines... if you are in medicaid/medicare and of course over 65 forget about it.. you can end up paying more than 500 dollars in medicine per month.....

Of course I don't have info about the flip side in Canada.. at least Alberta health care is free but medicines you'll need insurance for that... so far is what I have read...

Alberta Health care is not exactly free, but almost free. You have to pay $88 per month per family and you get all the checkups and hospital care for free. If you are dirt poor, you will also get medicine free too.

I have been studying this matter very closely as healthcare is the main reason I would like to move to Canada. I am tired of the US system. I would rather wait longer than die without getting a medical care OR go bankrupt after the medical care in the US.

Does anyone know how the Canada Health Care system comparable to the UK NHS. I heard that NHS in UK is pretty good though I never needed to avail care from them.

Actually, health care premiums in Alberta have been eliminated as of January 2009.
But yes, the waiting times in drop in clinics and emergency rooms are pretty bad. Also, if you are not critical or in a very serios condition, but require a visit to a specialist (i.e. internal medicine or even gynaecologists), waiting time can take about 2 to 3 months. everything has its price, I guess...
