Hello,

I would like to know if anyone had advice on how to write an explanation letter to extend my wife's visitor visa for another 6 months?
My wife if from south america and she is with me in Canada with our 3 year old son (who is a Canadian Citizen) and she has a  6 month stamp on her passport and we are going to send her residency application package tomorrow. Her visa expires in October and I will be applying for the extension in September. Now I would like to know if I explain my current situation in Canada on the letter? or does someone have any tips on what to add to make a strong letter to help to receive the extension?

Is it also a fact that it takes at least 2-3 months to receive a response about the extension?

1. Advise them that you have applied to sponsor her. Include a copy of the fees receipt and the sponsorship approval which you should have by then.
2. Advise that you have a Canadian child.  Send a copy of the child's passport and birth certificate.
3. Provide a letter of support from you stating that you will provide for her financial needs.  Include proof of employment if you have it, i.e. paystubs.

Yes, it could take 2 to 3 months or more to get a response.  The length of time it takes depends on the method of application, online or paper.  She will be on implied status as a visitor if you send the extension in before her current status expires and she has not received a decision by the expiry date.

Hello rjessome,

I would like to thank you for your advice and prompt response. I will apply for her extension by adding the necessary documents which you have mentioned.
