Do you still need LMO for extending PGWP if you have provincial nominee  and have application for PR is in process.

Here is my case. I will have my PGWP valid for 1 year by end of this month. At same time, I will be applying for provincial nominee of ontario as Master`s graduate.
If things go all right,

next year same time, I will have my Ontario Provincial nominee but waiting for my PR to be processed. Would I still need LMO for extension of my work permit

If you get the provincial nomination they should provide you with a letter to submit with the TWP extension application. This letter is used instead of an LMO.

I was wrong. CIC & Opp Ontario have conflicting info. Opp Ontario told me basically that you need LMO to extend WP. Deal breaker. But given that authority to grant WP rests with CIC and they have inclusively stated that if u hv bn nominated by a province u can apply for WP, i think its worth the application risk.

As per what I know, with Opp ontario, you will be issued certificate which does not require LMO. HOWEVER, this certificate is not issued if you apply under Master's stream in Opportunities ontario

my WP is gona expire in October. I have my PNP (Ontario) and i have filed my PR application on April 2011, though there is no status update on website, however, the draft has been cashed on May 30th, 2011.

Shall i go for my WP application using my
- PNP certificate copy
- Details of my PR application
- Attach my employment letter. Working as software developer at RIM since November 2010 .. ..

Huh

P.S:
I applied under Master Graduate Stream.

Are you a provincial nominee? If you are a provincial nominee and you have attained that through your current job you would not need a LMO!

Hi,
if you have pro nomination under masters category you will not receive a work permit support letter. The PNP maintains that the letter is only for people applying for pnp under skilled worker, bachelors or experience class applicants.

If you send an application for work permit to CIC, to extend a PGWP with an employment letter and a copy of your PNP certificate they will still refuse the application because they need the work permit support letter, which PNP will not give to a Masters stream applicant. PNP maintains that the individual should get his/her own LMO for the same.( I meant the company you are working with will help you get it).

The PGWP cannot be extended, cannot be renewed and can only be acquired once, even if you did 21 degrees.
In case your work permit is about to expire and your employer is no mood to get you a LMO and you  are a PNP who has filed for PR  a good option would be to apply for a visitor/student permit again and sit & enjoy.
A good piece of advice in such a condition would be to not work beyond valid work permit in any case because that will jeopardise your application for anything and everything.

lemme know if any clarification required.  Smiley

Ohhk.. this is the case of a friend of mine.

He also got a 1 year work permit, applied for OPNP and it got approved.

In order to extend his work permit he sent in his application with the following:

1. Copy of PNP Certificate
2. Job Offer Letter

LMO was not required.

He received a CLOSED work permit to his current employer as a result.

 @ sraheem86

Was this your friend initially given a PGWP which was then turned into a closed work permit?  Thanks
