Hi All,

I am planning to carry around $15,000 in Cash and around $10,000 in DD. Do I have to declare this in India at the immigration and if I do, do they ask for the source of funds? I have been out of India 31 years and never worked there. Dont have a PAN number. Will fly from Dubai to India and then to Canada. Appreciate the feedback.

To avoid any sort of hassles. FIRST and foremost thing is apply for PAN. Nowadays PAN has gained high importance. Also if you would be sending ur money to NRE account in India during all these years u were out of India then i dont think u'll have any problem.

Hai Vaibhav,

I am going to be in India only for a week and then leave. I dont want to apply for a PAN number. The cash I have I can prove that I got from Dubai by exchange. However, the demand draft money is in India and it is not through a NRE account. Its cash, accrued over a period of time. I cannot now prove the source of that cash; very difficult. Is this going to be a problem?
