I decided to renew my passport during my last trip to Canada.  I asked at the Chinese embassy whether the China visa I had in my old passport would still be valid; i.e. did I need a new CHina visa in my new passport?  The embassy person said I needed a new visa.

However, when I got to the CHinese border, I was told that the old visa (in the old passport) was still valid, so I did not need to get a new China visa.

So, it seems that as long as the old visa is not defaced in any way (i.e. the corner is not cut off), the old visa will still work.  However, the Chinese border guard had to ask a supervisor whether my old China visa was still good, so there is a risk that you won't meet anyone knowledgeable at the border, and they might give you problems.

I carry 2 passports always cos my old passport has US visa which is still valid and they have let me enter through that visa in past.

In my knowledge a valid visa on old passport is valid and can be used, so basically u will have to carry both of ur passports. The entry stamp at POE will be put in your new passport..... you should be fine.... dont worry!!
