For the outland sponsorship application.
I am the one being sponsored.

So do I need to send in my actual birth certificate or with a photocopy be okay?
If I have to send in the actual one, will I get it back?

If you read the guide well - it says not to submit ANY originals, unless it is specifically indicated. I don't know where you are applying from.....but usually you get a notarized copy of your birth cert [and if it is not originally in English, you translate it, then notarize it as on official copy].

I know in the US it's easy to get an original (true) copy of a birth certificate - but they say not to send originals, the only original we submitted was my husband's fingerprints/criminal record check from his country].

hope that helps.

I am from the US. So I need a notarized copy of my birth certificate?
How do I do this and where do I go?

And is your husband that one that was being sponsored? Where did he get the fingerprints from and how many copies do you need?

My husband came from a different country - so the steps and requirements were different, based on his country of origin. He did one set of fingerprints, we translated it, submitted the original with the translation.

This is a link the application guide for sponsorship, which details quite explicitly what you need to do: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3900E.pdf

This is a link to the document checklist you need to review when submitting your application: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5491E.PDF

This is a link to the application guide for the applicant, which details their requirements: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3999E.pdf

Finally
This is a link to the application document checklist an applicant need to review and the steps required for their specific region - this is for the UNITED STATES - where you are: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3910e.pdf

This is how you get a police certificate from the US: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/north-america/united-states.asp

As to how to get a notarized copy of any document...take the original and the copy to a lawyer or notary public, and pay their fee to notarize that the copy the you are showing them is in fact legitimate and true. They will stamp and sign the copy, attesting that copy is unaltered and true. And voila.

I have read everything I need, I just need some clarification on some things.

On the fingerprint deal, do I need to get those done before sending in my letter for request of the criminal check?
How do I get the FBI fingerprint card?

When I go to the FBI site like it says and look for the Related Links, there are none.
I would like to know where on the site I can request the fingerprint cards and cover letter.

the links are highlighted on the page that shamrock gave the link to, as for the fingerprints, as it suggests, you can get them from any Local law inforcement agency [aka local police dept etc...]
