I am a spouse of a full time student in Quebec,I have a multiple visitor visa which is valid until February 2012 to extend my stay in Canada,I applied for a work permit and received it in November 2011, and it is valid until august 2013 and it says i have to leave Canada by then. I wonder if it is necessary to extend my visa as well if i want to travel outside of Canada and return again or the work permit is enough? (i want to travel to USA in March)
if i want to extend it what should i do?

hello! yes you have to apply for a VISA to go back to Canada if you are going to the US! since you are in Canada already, apply for a visa in Buffalo, US... because IO won't renew a visa inside canada. It should always be outside Canada.

Yes, as long as your work permit is valid, and you only travel to the US or St. Pierre et Miquelon you will be re-admitted to Canada.

If you want to apply to Buffalo for a new TRV, the posted processing time by mail is 30 days.  In person, it is possible to get it the same day if you apply between 8-10 (earlier is better)

i'm sorry to ask again, but i didn't get the answer,i already have a multiple visa, why do i have to apply for another one? isn't there anything as extending a multiple visitor visa? if not, then what's the use of getting a multiple visa instead of single? canada immigration system is soooo weird Sad i'm really confused,do you know where i can get answers to my questions? there is a phone number in the website but that's useless, i really need to be sure of the answers i get, unless it's a big risk for me:(

In your original posts, you said that your multiple entry visa is valid to Feb/2012.  So if you wish to re-enter Canada from outside the US/ST. Pierre et Miquelon after the expiry date, you need a new TRV.  A single entry TRV allows you to enter Canada once.  A multiple entry allows you enter more than once up to the date of it's expiry.
