Hi,

I've found this on the cic website:

Medical examination requirements for visitors (tourists, students and temporary foreign workers)

If the duration of your visit is more than six months:

You will need a medical examination if:

you have resided or stayed temporarily for six or more consecutive months in a designated country or territory in the one year immediately preceding the date you sought entry into Canada. This applies even if you are a citizen of a country where you do not require a visa to enter Canada.

Please could someone clairfy the above statement as I'm a bit confused and do not know whether it apply to me. I'm a Malaysian but currently working and living in the UK for the past 4 years.

I've submitted the application for temporary resident visa and work permit application on 28th June 2011 but I have not heard any news from the cic (I know it is a bit too early though) but I'm just worried that the application will take longer if a medical check is required. My job does not involve in any close contact with general public.

Can some seniors please advise? Smiley

You will need medical examination. They will inform you and give you a medical request after the interview.

Hi Bambiegirl ,

Thank you for your reply.

I understand that UK residents does not require medical check if the job does not involve with the general public (ie.healthcare, teacher, etc).

Therefore, I thought I would be exempted from the medical check since the statement applies ONLY when you have resided/stayed in a designated country in the ONE year immediately PRECEDING THE DATE YOU ENTER CANADA.

In my case, I have left Malaysia for 4 years and will be departing from UK to Canada and where UK is exempted from medical check. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thank you.  Smiley

Chances are that you won't need a medical exam if you've been living legally in the UK for the past 4 years. If they want one, they will let you know.
