Do i have to bring my Landing paper to pick up my new PR

I wonder if they will accept the explanation that "I didn't know I needed to keep it" or "I wasn't told that I would need it for citizenship" or " My wife washed it when she did the laundry" or "I filed it but now can't find it"?

Is it possible to order a new COPR?  I think I should go look for mine now; though I distinctly remember when I landed the IO told me to hang on to it. So I filed it...somewhere.

Record of Landing (IMM 1000), or Confirmation of Permanent Residence (IMM 5292) and Permanent Resident Card (PRC) if you have one PLUS two pieces of photo id.

Well, my wife has the COPR (IMM 5292), but it is a carbon copy only, and already unclear (smudged in places).  I can't see how it is  going to survive the passage of years until we decide whether to go for citizenship or not.

Is there any problem with removing it from the passport (it is stapled to the page opposite the single-entry visa)?  And why was it stapled if it is OK to remove it and kept safe for PR renewals and for citizenship?

Remove it, scan it and put both items in safe places.

Yes, some do that, but it was returned to you for safe keeping.

LOL, I bet there was a lot that you didn't get told.

When I landed, I think that I knew more about the process and my options than some of the people that dealt with me.
There is a fair bit of misinformation and lack of information out there.

Some of the stories I get to hear are crazy, some funny and some very sad.
The good thing is that sometimes you meet an all knowing VO / IO, they are a pleasure for everyone to deal with
