There is no status more confusing than " In process ". It does not mean you will receive your medicals request soon , on this forum there are applicants whose status has been in process for months. That status in process simply means we are reviewing your file and we will be in touch when you hear from us
And the other status means like your file has arrived and is in safe hands but we haven't started working on it yet

I know applicants who have got job verifications during received by visa office,  It seems that once they have calculated your points and are satisfied with your documents, then application is considered to be eligible for processing and status changes to in process and it is lined up for medical request. during this time they carryout security and background checks

This is my understanding according to the cases I have seen, nothing official and CIC is unpredictable.

You couldn't put it better than that: "unpredictable" .That's the right word and I agree with that .Different things happen to different people during this in process status. No one would be able to say for sure what CIC is doing behind the scene when the post up that status.
