Difference between NOC 2174 and 2171

Even though the description of these two codes 2171 and 2174 is mentioned on the site, I am a little confused as to whats the difference between the two. Do both of them not apply to software engineers ?
How important are NOC codes ? What documentation does Alberta need to support the NOC code mentioned while filing the application.
