Your Canadian partner may register a new bank account in Canada or use an existing account and add you to this account. The best advice is to speak with the particular bank and ask them all necessary questions. Good luck!

We have our joint account before we started to apply for permanent residence and that tells everything of our relationship.

You should be able to do this at any bank.  My husband (US citizen) and I (Canadian citizen) opened up a chequing account and a savings account at the Bank of Montreal.  They had all my information on file since I have been banking with them for years and they only asked for two pieces of photo identification from him.

some banks require your personal presence in Canada to open a joint account
