do it yourself. if you are from canada (regardless of you residence status) and want to inquire about your OWN file, it's free.
if you are not in canada you need to ask someone in Canada to obtain it for you for $5.

Fill out the form then mail/fax/email to them and get it back in a month.

           Ordering Caips worth it. Cost around $40.00. It will give you all details about your process, what they got and what they will  need.

I dont think its free... Nothing is free in canada... Correct me if I am wrong

Under Privacy Act, people present in Canada can obtain their PERSONAL file held by government agencies for FREE.

If you are outside Canada you do not have this priviledge and would have to pay $5 under Access to Information Act.

Procedure same for both Act, you need to specify which Act applies to you.
