Dependent child case - In process

Dear All
I applied for sponsorship application in July 2009 for my daughter who was born outside Canada. My current status was permanent resident. Due to some personal issues, I left Canada while the file was in process. To date, the application is in process and there has not been any communication from CIC except a call in August where they enquired about me and it was told that I am out of Canada for a short period. Please suggest what might be delay; shall I wait for decision or shall I come back to Canada for a shorter period in order to have a decision from CIC regarding sponsorship application of my daughter.

As a PR to sponsor you MUST reside in Canada.  If the overseas office finds out that you are not living in Canada (they already know from your post) they will most likely refuse.

If you are staying outside of Canada for one of the reason:
-   full-time employment to a Canadian business abroad
-   you were accompanying a permanent resident of Canada working for a Canadian business abroad
-   you accompanied a Canadien citizen staying abroad
It is a legitimate absence and you will need to have a proof of your relationship or proof of your full-time employment.

However, when you sponsor a dependent child to become permanent residents of Canada, you must promise to support her financially. Therefore, you have to meet certain income requirements. So if you are staying outside Canada you still have to meet income requirements, and be able to prove it.
