Thanks Lilly!! I was quite surprised to receive the email from Ottawa. I thought the PPR always comes from the visa office that will process your visa. But i got it from Ottawa asking to submit it to Detroit!

Congrats guys for recieveing Medicals. I only have a quick question here,when you recieve AOR and Medical does this mean your application is approved and its just a matter of time when you will get your visa or what?

Ecas: Medicals received showed up 3 weeks after they received, according to ecas, they started processing my file on May 22nd, but I doubt that, as I received medicals on April 4th, and the GCMS notes dated May 15th, showed my file was being worked on.

It shows medical received today for me. How long does it usually take to get a request for PPR.

It really depends on a whole number of factors, anywhere from 1 month sometimes to 3 months for some cases. I guess in my case it was around 5 weeks.

Nope, you could get rejected based on your medical, and also the background, security checks are still either in process, or not started yet.

I also received my PPR June 19th (applied 22nd December 2011)...so does PPR definitely mean approval? Anyone know how long it usually takes after sending passport to Detroit? Also from the UK so sent a copy of the whole passport as UK is visa exempt...

I'm in the same boat as you - app received 22nd Dec, PPR June 19th and I'm also from the UK. When you say you sent a copy of the whole passport, did you photocopy every page? I just sent the photo page...I couldn't see why they'd want a copy of all the blank pages....but I could be very wrong.

I think we should have it back within the next 2weeks.

I  did copy every page because they already had the photo page - could also be wrong but figured I'd send it all just in case!    I'm not really sure what they send us back either – i.e – just a letter confirming permanent residence which we'll use to cross the border or an actual visa etc – I guess we'll have to wait and see!

Congrats to you on your ppr as well – we must've been in the same ‘batch' timing wise!

Nic, to answer your question, as to what we get back, we get a COPR - Copy of Permanent Residence i think, back from Detroit. Then you take that paper and to the border, and officially land as a Permanent Residence. For people from non-visa exempt countries, we also get a entry visa for Canada to allow inbound travelers the ability to get the border, which is why if you're exempt from having a visa for Canada, you don't need to send your original passport, because no entry visa is required to be put onto your passport.

As for me, I'm traveling to Detroit consulate on Thursday and hopefully land the same day, I'm on a bit more of a tight timeline, so I don't want to wait for another month to receive the COPR.

Did you schedule an appointment? Or how do you plan on getting the COPR on the same day?

You don't need an appointment. Its walking on Tuesday or Thursday between 8:30-11am and usually they tell you to pick it up at 2:30pm same day
