Hi, can someone tell me if you have to be debt free before you can become a PR of Canada. I'm getting married and of course I have debt where I live in the US. Obviously I can still pay my bills in the US while I live in Canada. But, somewhere I read a post and now I can't find it. So, anyone that has already made it to the PR status, can you please inform me on how this Debt part works?

Thanks,
Lovingit

Hello,

You are not required to show your bank statements or debt for sponsorship purposes. You are required to show that you meet the minimum requirements (that you earn) enough to support you and the person you are sponsoring.

Good luck

I would imagine if your sponsor can prove that you will not become a burden to Canada you would be okay. Just an opinion.
