Dear Canada

We met in 2006 when I first crossed your borders and was amazed at your scenery. I liked you and wanted to visit you more often, but I never figured we would be in a situation where I'm begging to be given a chance to live in you. You have been reluctant to accept me, but so far you have allowed me to be a visitor.
What's the future going to look like? Are you going to make my life complete, or ruin it completely? I gave up my power over my life to be here, are you going to give it back to me? Or are you going to decide it was all for nothing?
I never imagined living here until it turned out my love was here. My love, with whom I want to spend the rest of my life. We deserve a shot at happiness. I do like you, Canada, and even though you don't need to necessarily like me, please accept I'm here and give me a fair chance. I think you owe me that much. Don't you think?
I know you are not going to answer these questions and that is what upsets me. You are rigid and obnoxious and I'm supposed to deal with that, I'm supposed to wait until you decide the time has come to acknowledge my existence, to give me a scrap of information, perhaps even the shadow of an answer. At some point the real answer will come, probably covered in a cr @ ppy gravy of bureaucratic language, and that will make me happy, but I will not know when that answer will come, could be anywhere between 2 months and 2 years. And that's making me angry, Canada. You honestly p!ss me off. Not because I don't like you, but because I seem to not exist in your eyes.

Things could be worse though. Suppose I had to write this letter to The Netherlands instead.

Yours (at some point I hope)

You can certain be angry at Canada and its red tape. But be angry at the fraudsters as well. They ruined it for the rest of us.

Haha, nice!

Mine would read something like:

Dear Canada,

Even though we've never met, I feel I know you already.  This is because I love and cherish one of your sons, and daily I hear from him how wonderful you are and how much there is to be learned from you.

You're worried that if I meet you as a visitor, I may never want to leave, even if you ask me to.  However, if you would consult with your neighbour to the south, you would hear only good things about my habits as a visitor, and they would even tell you that I am welcome to return to their abode to visit at any time over the next 8 years or so.

However, since you won't let me visit, we have decided to ask for me to remain permanently instead.  I realise I'm one of millions, and therefore undeserving of any special attention, but it would be really nice if your employees at least acknowledged that they had received this request of ours, and didn't make us feel like beggars at the door, including your very own son.

Looking forward (in hope) to meeting you soon,

Charlie.

One would have to put in a special "holiday-themed" paragraph (about spending that time of year away from one's significant other because of you, oh Canada!!). These Dear Canada (it's like dear John, I get it  Tongue) letters are nice, but where are all the four-letter words that belong in them??

Lol... mine would read "Dear Canada, I never gave a cr @ p about you, I was happy in the states, never thought of coming to live to the cold northern dominion... between my warm California beaches and the New Mexico beautiful scenery I never thought I would have to give it away so I could get to know what a real winter is... But my beautiful wife was born in your cold lands and we lived for some years in the states and she missed your cold and bland tasteless food... one day finally she convinced to give you a try... I am still not crazy about you Canada, with your awful broken immigration system and how slow you process everything... but for the love of a woman, here I am, in your cold lands... Winter is coming"

You should end it with, "oh, and did I mention you're cold?"  Tongue

Clarification: The feelings and opinions in the first post is not how I usually feel. Some of it isn't even fair, or one can argue about how "right" I am. Nor am I in a really bad situation, I usually even consider myself fairly fortunate. But not always. My first post expressed just how I felt at the moment I wrote it. One of those moments, you know.
The purpose of this letter is not to be right, or fair, or reasonable, or even politically correct. It is to vent! I feel Canada and I can look one another straight in the eye again now that that's cleared up.

I wrote this just for myself, but decided to post it on this forum later, because I had a feeling some (perhaps even most or all) of you can relate. And perhaps... it is a good idea to have such a topic. We can be fair, patient and reasonable in all the other topics in this forum. Perhaps it's a good thing to have this one topic that serves a different purpose. The purpose of creative venting.

I am challenging everyone who reads it, to create their own "Dear Canada" letter. What is it you always wanted to say to Canada, but felt like you couldn't, either because you were scared of bad consequences or because you are just to nice to do so? If Canada were a person instead of a country, what would you like to talk to them about to set the records straight?

Be creative, be funny, be mad, be sad, be nasty, show some teeth! Give it your all! Come on people!
