"Sebatical Leave"

   Dear Mr Cohen,

In December I'll be coming to Canada as a tourist for 6 months (the longest possible stay as a tourist as I've seen on the dutch canadian embassy site.). I've got the ambition to become a PR but first want to enjoy live in Canada for 6 months to see if this is really is what I want (allthough I know I allready want to).
My question is:
Is there some kind of settlement that can be made to do some incidental jobs during those 6 months? Like standing in a bar on friday night or working in a store for some weeks? Just for some extra pocket money?
I've got enough money for the whole six months, but just asking if it's possible to do some incidental jobs along the way.
Another thing to ask, a tourist can do voluntary work, can't he?
Just want to be busy during those 6 months :)

Thanks in advance,

Sander Epker

There are no standard exemptions that exist for the type of work that you are referring to. An employment authorization would be required to be eligible to engage in such legally.

You may wish to inquire at your local Embassy about the availability ond eligibility for a Work Holiday visa, which would entitle you to engage in such positions.
