"temporary work permit"
 
   I would appreciate your opinion on what would be best for my family in regards to obtaining landed immigrate status or temporary status in Canada. The cost of obtaining permanent status is very high for a family and Im not sure things would work out for us there. Can we apply for a temporary work permit and status first and then apply for permanent immigrate later on???
If I do apply for a work permit, would my wife and children be allowed to live there with me? Is there a cost associated with applying for temporary status or a work permit??? Also, do you have to have a job first before you apply for a work permit??
Would appreciate your help.

   Yes, you can apply for employment authorization first, and PR sttaus later if you wish. To be eligible for employment authorization, however, you must have a job offer, and may require validation. The government fee or an employment authorization is CAD$150.

Your dependents would have to acquire visitor visas to be eligible to accompany you to Canada.
