"extension of employment authorization"

I have been in Canada as a (E-20) volunteer without remuneration since last September. My current authorization expires 05.May 2001. I would like to stay until 28.August.2001. Will it be easier to just leave by 05.May and then go through the steps for getting another EA, or can I apply for an extension?

Also, I am planning on going to school here in the fall. To obtain my student visa, will I have to wait until my EA expires before I apply for it, or can they overlap?

Thank you,
Shawn Kelley

It would likely be simpler to apply for extension of your current status from within Canada. This should be done as soon as possible, as it is generally asked that such extensions be submitted 30 days prior to expiration of status.

You may apply for a student authorization while an employment authorization remains valid.
