Dear Kai,The Pilot Project for Spouses of Highly Skilled Temporary Workers was first implemented in October 1998. At that time, it was set to expire in October 1999. No official statement as to the extension of the Pilot Project has been made to date. However, Citizenship & Immigration Canada (CIC) is clearly continuing to apply the Pilot Project as if it has in fact been extended beyond its initial expiry date.
Unfortunately, it is impossible to say for certain whether the Pilot Project will remain in effect in 2001, as CIC has not officially pronounced on this matter as of yet. It appears, however, that CIC is pleased with the results of the Pilot Project to date, which should provide some hope that the Pilot Project will continue to be implemented for some time to come.
One important point to note is that your spouse may apply for an Employment Authorization under the Pilot Project at the same time as you apply for your Employment Authorization (as the "principal" temporary foreign worker). This could save you some valuable time.
