"Temporary work for spouse of citizen"

I am marrying a Canadian citizen in May and she would like to return to Canada. She is an RN and has some offers of employment, however I do not know if I am able to work while we wait during the long application for sponsorship process. I am an advertising and marketing professional and do not know if I qualify for work under NAFT. We would like to move there with her job offer, but they will not wait 6-18 months for me to be qualified and she does not want to leave without bringing me with her. Any advice on what we can do to get an Employment Authorization? Can I visit for the 90 days allowed as a tourist while applying for permanent residence and could I accept a job offer while in Canada? Thank you for any help you can provide.

Assuming that you are a US citizen, then you should start by examining your eligibility for an employment authorization under the provisions of NAFTA. If you are eligible, and can obtain a job offer in your field, then you could start working immeidately upon your arrival.

Alternatively, if you gain admission to Canada as a visitor, then you may initiate an inland sponsorship application and may be eligible for an open employment authorization within 6-12 weeks, after an approval in prnciple.
