"Jobhunting Strategy with Pilot Project For Software Professionals"

   Hi,

I'm currently in Toronto, looking for a Web Developer position under the Pilot Project For Software Professionals. I have no problems in terms of work experience; my resume has been described as "impressive" by many employers, but the minute I tell them that I will need a work permit, they suddenly shy away. I have done my best to prepare and present all the facts to them, but it seems that there are many misconceptions about the employment authorization process. I am from Malaysia but have 2+ years US work experience, and a US bachelor's degree. My English, spoken and written is immaculate. What is the best strategy for somebody in my position? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Cheers

Gene Chuah

You should try to make the employer understand that a non-binding offer letter is all that may be required to obtain an employment authorization, and that they would not necessarily become engaged in any of the processing that follows. For an applicant under the Pilot Project, such a letter may be sufficient to allow for issuance of an employment authorization.
