"open work authorization"

   Dear Mr. Cohen:

I just wanted to ask you a question on the open employment visa. You see, my husband is currently working with a work permit and I am currently here with my student permit taking french. Currently we both have our CSQ from Quebec and I am waiting to get my authorization to get my medical exams, since I got ammended to his permanent residence case. He already sent his medical exams last october and I sent my application, police certificates, and CSQ to Buffalo at the end of February. I was just wondering if I could ask for an open employment visa in order to work outside of the university. We have both been in Canada for 5 years finishing our degrees and we are just waiting for our permanent residence.

Thank you for all your help

If your husband obtained an employment authorization based on his qualifications, and is designated in a "high'skill" NOC designation, then you may be eligible for an employment authorization under the Spousal Pilot.

If, however, he is on an open employment authorization based on your status as a foreign student, then an open authorization may not be possible.
