"taxing US pay??"

My husband is a retired US military member, and we do receive a retirement pay from the US. We would like to know if Canada will tax us on this pay if we become an immmigrant and live and work there.

You have asked whether a U.S. person who moves to Canada will be subject to income tax on his U.S. retirement pension. Under Canadian domestic rules, the pension income earned from the U.S. is subject to income tax. However, depending on the type of pension, it may be exempted from Canadian tax based on the U.S. Income Tax Treaty.

The nature of this facility is to provide a general response to a general question. Under no circumstances should anyone act on this information without obtaining analysis and counsel from a qualified advisor with respect to the specific situation.
